Digital Scrapbooking and your ever evolving CREATIVITY!!!

I often wonder where creative people get their ideas….Doesn’t seem unfair that there are people out there who can take something so simple and make it FABULOUS???

I am one of those poor unfortunates who can only dream, well not even dream, of making something fantastic out of mere nothing but thanks to digital scrapbooking, that has all changed.

You see, depending on the program you use, you can copy from someone else’s genius.  It isn’t really being a copy cat, it is really just using the templates that someone has come up with to help those of us less creative…LOL

A friend of mine Heidi allowed me to copy one of her’s…See what I did???  Here is Heidi's:

Here is Mine:  Only it really is not blurry...

I just tweaked it to match my liking…and NO it is not blurry like picture suggests. Without Heidi’s help, I would not have come up with this by myself…Thank so much Heidi…

Another advantage of a good program is the use of color combinations…Now I am a quilter…I love to quilt…I made this back in 2003. But I didn’t come up with the colors…I am really no good at that…But the lady at the quilt shop asked what colors I like and she did the rest…I won 1st place for this one.

Well with a good Digital Scrapbooking program, you have your color combinations figured out for you…and/or you can break them down anyway you would like to use them…As with this collection of art work.  You are able to break down each element to use, let’s say, the frog by itself or the green paper in the back ground by itself…or the candy canes for a greeting card.

Digital Scrapbooking can be anything you want to make it…Hybrid Digitals are wonderful too…I mentioned them before…

With Hybrids, you can create Clocks and Card Decks.

With the correct Digital Program…You are only limited by your imagination and even then….There is HELP!!!

Until next time…

One of the best advantages of Digital Scrapbooking is the ability to edit without destroying your creation. You spend some quality time creating your masterpieces. Carefully selecting the pictures and backgrounds, cutting out the embellishments or pasting pre-made ones to just the right placing on the paper. There is this photo on this page, that cropped picture on the next.

You get everything just the way you want it, CORRECT??? Or so you think...

Everything is pasted and glued and stuck to the pages that you have so lovingly put together. It may have taken a week to get it all just the way you thought you wanted it. And then…. Page 5 really would look better as page 9. Or do you really like background around you daughter on page 3? What to do?

With traditional scrapbooking, you have already glued everything where it was suppose to go. (with traditional scrapbooking)

Well, with Digital Scrapbooking, this is NEVER a problem…. You can edit to your little heart’s content and never damage a thing.

Did you crop that picture too close? Does page 5 need to be moved to page 9. Little Sally’s background should have been fuchsia not pink. With a few clicks of your mouse and selections from the menu, it is all taken care of.

With Digital Scrapbooking, you get to preview what you make before you have it printed. Any changes that you need to make are made before the project is published.

Make sure the Digital Program you use is TOTALLY customizable…There are some out there that you have to use ONLY what they have the way they have it. Choose one that lets you customize even what they have. If the frame you like is too large or to small, make sure you can make it fit to your liking.

I believe Digital Scrapbooking, Storybooking has changed the way you can look at the hobby…

If you haven’t yet tried it…I urge you to. You will be glad you did.

Forgotten Faces

This striking young man, was a loving father, grand father and wonderful husband of 32 years. Since his death in 1996, he has had 4 grand children (7 total) and 1 great grand child born who have never seen him other than in photographs.

He would have been 76 this past August 9th. He was 6'3", very handsome and very much a Take Charge type of guy because of his 23 years in the Marines.

I loved this man who use to put me up on his shoulders and spin me around. This man, I called Dad. I was his first born...I gave him his first grand son and he, his first great grand child. My mother and he were married for 32 years but that time seems so far away now...

There are many wonderful things I can tell you about my dad, but still even more that I have begun to forget. If only I had at least written something on the back of the many photos I have of our life together...

Being in the military, we lived in some extraordinary places...seen some wonderful things as well but all I have are photos and no dad to tell my children what happened when I was small. There are no words on the backs of many of these photos and my mother, being 70 now, doesn't recall a lot of the details...

If only we had preserved the pictures better. Oh sure, some are in photo albums, but most in shoe boxes. We didn't have digital cameras with memory cards or computer hard drives to download them to. So even if we did get around to getting them developed, in the boxes they'd go.  Because "We had our memories..."

But now with the age of digital technology, how much better will my grand kids ( and I have one, LOL ) have it. We can easily document and preserve each and every photo we take. There are storybooks being written to share with friends and families so that our loved ones and places we've been will NEVER be forgotten...

Take the time to preserve your past...You have a heritage like no other that will come after you...Do not let the past be forgotten...Someone, wants to know who you are...That someone may be very near and dear to your heart....

Won't it be nice to share with them, just where they came from???

Write a Good Storybook...

Writing a Story:
Maybe you want to write about your family.

Your family stories are your heritage. From the big life events like weddings and births, to the everyday fun on the soccer field and summer vacations…we all have stories that need to be written and preserved.

Decide what story you want to tell.  Do you want to preserve your grandfather’s life? Or maybe a story about your favorite sibling? Perhaps you had a wonderful vacation last year and the memories are starting to fade so you have decided to write them down before it is too late.

Gather Your Photos: you can get all of your boxes of photos scanned if they are not also on your hard drive.  You can have the put on a disk for easier access.  Sellect from your stash what photos you want to use and then place them in the order you wish to tell about them.

This is where the digital world comes in handy...Not only can you put them in order and then change your mind later, but you can crop them WITHOUT messing up the original.

Maybe you want just the face in one section but the whole picture in another...With digital storybooking, this is never a problem.
Now it is time to SHARE THE MESSAGE!

Just one individual and one storybook can make a huge difference in the lives of others. And it all starts with sharing the message…your story.

Createreate Your Project:  Create your family’s heritage with a library of storybooks, cards, posters or canvas prints.  You’ll be able to create an amazing treasure of stories and values that you can pass onto your children and grandchildren.

Benefits of Storybooking

Storybooking is a great way to captivate the meaning of a particular photograph.  Why just take a photo when you can write something about it to explain it to others who may see it....

Have the storybook displayed on your end table of coffee table for enjoyment by the whole family...Your friends are also interested in your life...Why not share it in story form?

From time to time, I see many amazing examples of other's creativity when it comes to storybooking...and I am able to use what they have done to create something for a photo of mine.

One wonderful technique uses a faded water color sheet over a picture...Then inverting that set up to make the object look as though it is a reflexion in the water.
I used this with a photo of my Grand Daughter and am totally thrilled by the results...
You are only limited by your imagination....Creativity can grow in each of us with a little help from our friends.

Consider your photos and the stories they have to share...Then hop onto your computer and start a project...
I use this time for MY time...My time to get alone with my thoughts and create wonderful, life long displays of the people and things I love.

Give it a try...You will be glad you did.
